What to expect: Waxing

If it’s your first time booking with Restorative Massage Therapy, then we ask you to do it with us over the phone so we can create your account with you and make sure we have all your details right! Our number is (540) 421-1876. After your first booking, you will be able to book all of your future appointments online!

Beyond your name, number, and email being required for your appointment to be booked, we also require either a prepayment for the session or to have your credit card information on file in order to abide by our Cancellation Policy.

Before you Arrive

Check to be sure you aren’t disqualified for your appointment based on contraindications listed on our Waxing Information page; we will not provide the service for your own safety if any of these apply to you!

  • Exfoliate the area a few days before your session.

To prepare for your wax it can be helpful to exfoliate the area a few days before the wax if you commonly suffer from ingrown hairs. This is commonly helpful on areas such as the legs. Exfoliating the day before or the day of can be too rough for the skin and may make the skin more sensitive.

  • Book at least two days before your holiday.

Remember to book your wax two days before you go on holiday to allow the follicles enough time to close and for the skin to calm down.

Arriving at RMT

Upon arrival you’ll be asked to fill out a form about your skin and general health-related questions our esthetician may need to know, so it is good to arrive 5-10 minutes early. You’ll also be asked if you need to use the restroom or get a drink of water. As soon as everything is in order, our esthetician will lead you to your room to begin your appointment.

Getting to know you

Before your session begins, the esthetician will ask if you have any skincare issues you’d like to address, clarify any medical issues you might have, and ask you if you have any questions. Esthetics is all about helping YOU! Tell us if you have any preferences, uncertainties, or questions about waxing and the effects you may experience from waxing.

Waxing service

The esthetician will then explain what clothing will need to be removed for the service scheduled; you will never be asked to remove clothing that is not necessary to be removed for the area being waxed. A sheet may be used to cover areas of the body that may be exposed when the clothing is removed but is not going to be touched by the waxed.

During your session, the esthetician will wipe down the area to be sure it is dry prior to applying the wax. Depending on the service, two different waxes may be used, but both are safe for the skin when proper procedure is followed. Your comfort is important to us! Let your esthetician know if the wax is irritating your skin or if you are uncomfortable. Following the removal of the hair using the wax and paper strips, the esthetician will calm the skin using oil and lotion.

If you have any questions about the products the esthetician is using, please ask! Your session is about helping you achieve your scheduled service, but it is also about learning how your body might be interacting with the products and how to care for your skin and hair at home!

After your Service

At the end of your session, the esthetician will exit the room to give you a few moments alone to recover and get dressed. As soon as you’re ready to return to the world, you can exit the room and meet your esthetician at the front desk. It’s very important to stay moisturized following a wax, so you will be given a small capsule of lotion to apply at home. If you enjoyed your experience, you can always leave a tip in the room or add a gratuity to your final payment at the front desk!

Staying Relaxed

For the first 24 hours after waxing, you should avoid the following:

Exfoliating the waxed area.
Saunas and steam rooms.
Exercise, gyms, and swimming.
Sunbathing, sunbeds, or any sunlight/UV exposure. Sweat can infect open follicles and heat can irritate the waxed area.
Applying products to the waxed area such as: deodorants, make-up, lotions, soaps, powders, perfumes, self-tanning products, etc.
Tight fitted clothing that may cause friction to the waxed area.

A soothing lotion will be applied after a wax service. For at home care, applying aloe vera to the waxed area can help soothe and hydrate the skin.
